NEW YORK – The New York Knicks officially announced the signing of Ron Baker, Monday afternoon.
Baker’s deal with the Knicks was widely reported over the past few weeks but only recently finalized. He’s expect to attend preseason training camp with the team where he will contend for a spot on the regular season roster.
Baker played well in a short stint last month with the Knicks’ Orlando Summer League team. He scored a team-high 70 points in five starts and hit his stride late in the session with back-to-back 20-point games to close things out, fueled by an 8-for-15 performance from three-point range. Overall, Baker averaged 14.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists, and his 14 steals were the Orlando League’s third-highest total.
Baker continues a recent trend of Shockers in a Knick uniform. Cleanthony Early was a 2014 Knicks draftee and has spent portions of the past two seasons on the team’s regular season roster. Prior to that, Toure’ Murry appeared in 51 games for New York during the 2013-14 season.
Nate Bowman (1967-70), Xavier McDaniel (1991-92) and Dave Stallworth (1965-67, 69-71 and 74-75) have also been Knicks, with Stallworth and Bowman teaming up on New York’s 1970 NBA Championship squad. Paul Miller attended training camp with the Knicks in 2006, shortly after leading the Shockers to a Sweet 16.
