Wichita Renames Downtown Street In Shockers’ Honor

WICHITA — In honor of this weekend’s Wichita State men’s basketball game at INTRUST Bank Arena, the city has approved the temporary renaming of Waterman Street to WuShock Way.

INTRUST Bank Arena staff, in conjunction with WSU Athletics, will host a brief ceremony at the intersection of St. Francis and Waterman (across from arena Entrance B) at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14. The public is invited to attend.

Representatives from the Wichita State Athletic Department, Sedgwick County, INTRUST Bank Arena’s founding partners and SMG will also be in attendance to assist with the renaming.

The change will remain in effect through the end of Wichita State’s Saturday, Dec. 17 contest against Oklahoma State. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., and doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

The 15,004-seat arena is already sold out, but fans who missed out on tickets can catch the game on ESPN3. The Shockers are undefeated when playing downtown at INTRUST Bank Arena and will look to improve their record to 7-0.
