Right or wrong, meteorologists in the South Central area all agree that Butler County residents should be prepared for a potential ice storm this weekend.
The National Weather Service of Wichita predicts that precipitation will begin Friday morning and persist through Monday.
This precipitation will bring ice, sleet and snow across the area making travel hazardous.
It is too soon for the weather service to have predictions on how much ice Butler County and the Wichita area will get, however they are anticipating enough to cause problems as both Butler and Sedgwick counties are in their greatest risk area on published maps.
Meteorologists will have a better idea in the coming days, but stress that ice storms are hard to predict accurately based on where the warm air column is on those days.
The NWS is already predicting slick travel and ask that residents prepare by getting food, fuel and checking generators. They also advise that if power does go out, to check on elderly neighbors or neighbors with young kids.
