DONALDSON, DANIEL “DUANE” SR., 82, retired Navy Seal and Cab driver, passed away on March 30 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Duane was born on October 2, 1934 in Benton, KS to Wiley Monroe Scott and Izola Marie-Harrison Donaldson Scott. Duane was a cabdriver for 50+ years and spent much of his time in the cab “Half a Dime”, #5. He hauled many people through his years and enjoyed meeting new people and sharing stories with them. He was a longtime member of VFW Post 112 in Wichita and ran Paradise lawn service with his son for many years. He was a survivor of the 1991 Andover tornado and was living in the mobile home park at the time. His family lost everything that day, but as a testament to Duane’s resolve they picked up and continued on. Duane loved his time at church and attended a few different ones through the years with his family; he was very active in each congregation that he was a part of. Duane’s greatest passion was children; he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids and unofficially “adopted” many children when they’d crawl up on his knee and get a peppermint from him.
Duane is survived by his sons Daniel Donaldson Jr.(Jean) and Daryl Donaldson(Michele); his siblings E.J. Scott, Gale Tracy, Marlene Mason, Helen Maskrid, Doris Grunden, Mary Trout and Bert Scott; grandchildren Devon Donaldson, Brandon Donaldson, Zeke Wilson, Moriah Wilson, Krystal Donaldson, Kristin Donaldson, Brianna Donaldson, Jaydon Donaldson, Destiny Donaldson and Chase Donaldson; 4 great grandchildren and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Lillian Marie Donaldson-Simmons, Dorothy Claudine Donaldson-Cook and James Allen Donaldson.
