WICHITA – Wichita State scored seven runs in the sixth inning to win 12-7 and complete the sweep of Illinois State.
Starter Tommy Barnhouse went three innings giving up four hits with four strikeouts, one walk and five runs, three of them earned.
Wichita State scored two runs in the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Greyson Jenista hit a single with one out and Bohm followed with a RBI triple to right-center. Bohm later scored on a sacrifice fly from Willie Schwanke.
Illinois State scored two runs in the second behind a two-run home run from Collin Braithwaite.
The Redbirds took the lead back in the third behind a triple by Noah Sadler and a fielding error by the Shockers to take a 5-3 lead.
Bohm led off the Shocker fifth with a single up the middle and Schwanke followed with a double to right field to put runners on second and third. Vickers hit a RBI single to right field and Ritter hit a RBI single up the middle to tie the game at five.
Illinois State added two runs in the sixth behind two RBI singles from Joe Butler and Owen Miller.
Wichita State exploded in the sixth scoring seven runs on five hits to go along with three errors by Illinois State. The big hit was Vickers’ two-run double to give the Shockers a 6-5 lead.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., May 2 at Kansas State at 6:30 p.m.
