One dead, one injured in dirt bike crash

ROSE HILL — A Douglass man died after a head-on dirt bike collision Sunday evening.

The 20-year-old Rusty Inkelaar was heading south around the 5600 block of 143rd St. around 11 p.m. Sunday. At the same time, 23-year-old Nicholas Ralph of Derby was traveling north in the southbound lane on a black dirt bike with no headlight and collided with Inkelaar, who was riding a red dirt bike with no headlight according to Sedgwick County Sheriff’s department.

Inkelaar was pronounced dead at the scene, and Ralph was transported to the local hospital with serious injuries.

Sedgwick County Sheriff’s are still investigating. They are not sure why the Derby man was traveling in the wrong lane. Neither of the riders knew each other. According to the sheriff’s report alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Neither riders were wearing helmets.
