ROSE HILL — A Rose Hill baseball player will be back in Rocket colors, but for a completely different team.
Wednesday Rose Hill graduate Nate Scantlin was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds. He was the 437th overall picked and was chosen by the Major League team in the 15th round. This is Scantlin’s big break. the 18-year-old signed with Iowa Western as a center fielder prospect to play baseball in college, but opted to sign and begin his professional career.
During his time at Rose Hill he received several All-League honors and averaged five home runs, 28 RBI’s with a .589 batting average.
A former Kansas Cannons player, Bligh Madris was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the ninth round. Madris was an outfielder for Colorado Mesa University. He was conference player of the year this year and won the Most Valuable Player award last season with the Cannons.
