“I’m excited about and for Austin,” Lamb said. “He comes highly recommended by two people I trust in Arizona volleyball coach David Rubio and Arizona beach volleyball coach Steve Walker. He is a hard worker with high energy and is always teaching. His beach background excites me. Youth sand volleyball is exploding in Wichita and he’s a great asset for the sand community.”
Austin comes to WSU after serving as the Volunteer Assistant Coach for the University of Arizona Beach Volleyball program this past spring. He was also an assistant coach for the Arizona Men’s Volleyball Club team in 2016-17.
“I am thrilled to join the Wichita State volleyball program and community,” Hosto said. “I eagerly await working with such a talented group of student-athletes and alongside a wonderful coaching staff. This new conference brings many new challenges and I look forward to facing them with this great program.”
Last spring at Arizona, Hosto was responsible for on-court coaching as well as scouting of opponents and game plan development for specific teams. He also collaborated with the coaching staff to develop team compositions and pairings for a top-9 ranked team in NCAA Division I.
As an assistant coach with the men’s club, he organized and executed practice plans, developed in-game strategies and developed new skills training drills.
From 2015-17, he was the head coach for the Desert Sand Volleyball Club. He performed on-court coaching and was responsible for scouting of opponents and assisted the director in organization and scheduling of practices and tournament dates.
During the 2016 fall season, he was an assistant coach for Central Arizona College where he developed and implemented serving and blocking systems.
From 2013-15, he was the student manager for the Arizona Women’s Beach Volleyball program and he served as a coach and student manager for the David Rubio Volleyball Camp from 2013-15 and for the Steve Walker Sand Volleyball Camp from 2014-15.
As a player, Hosto was a starting middle or outside for the University of Arizona men’s club volleyball team from 2010-15. In 2013 and 2015, he led the team to a NCVF Final 8 finish. In 2016, he was an outside hitter for the Arizona Sizzle, a member of the Premier Volleyball League.
Austin earned his bachelor’s degree in business management with a minor in Spanish in December 2015 from the University of Arizona.
