Two Shockers drafted on final day

WICHITA – Two Wichita State baseball student-athletes were drafted during the final day of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.

Junior right-handed pitcher Ben Hecht was taken in the 12th round by the Chicago Cubs and senior left-handed pitcher Reagan Biechler was taken in the 31st round by the Colorado Rockies.

In 2017, Hecht made 28 appearances out of the Shocker bullpen. He went 2-2 with eight saves and a 5.04 ERA. He pitched 30.1 innings with 41 strikeouts.

Biechler made a team-best 35 appearances in 2017 for the Shockers. He went 1-2 with three saves and a 2.84 ERA. He pitched 31.2 innings with 40 strikeouts.

The Shockers also had one signee taken in the draft. Right-handed pitcher Ronnie Taylor Jr. was taken in the 40th round by the New York Mets.
