EL DORADO — The Kansas Shrine Bowl title goes to the West team this year after a narrow 22-20 defeat of the East team Saturday night at BG Products Veteran’s Stadium.
The day started in celebration with a parade and a 5K and 1 mile walk.
West was first to cross into the end zone with a 41-yard-pass from Jacob Murray to Kaden Davis with 5:55 in the first quarter. The following two-point try was no good. West then went up 12-0 after a one-yard run by Zach Esau. The pass from Esau to Ben Murray was good for a 14-0 score at the end of the first quarter.
Dalton Cowan completed an 18-yard pass to Cuttar Huss for East’s first touchdown and a 14-7 score at halftime after a kick by Bryce Steffens.
East tied the game after a 73-yard run by JJ Letcher followed by another good Steffens kick to start the third quarter. It was followed by a 3-yard-run by Brandon Mlekus to edge East ahead 21-14 after a good kick by Steffens.
West was one point behind after the two-point-play failed following a 7-yard catch by Esau from Dylan Foos. To close the game it was a safety by Zach Helming that clinched the win for West and end the game.
