Shocker track class includes Butler County standouts

WICHITA – Wichita State men’s and women’s track and field teams welcome 48 newcomers to the program this fall, including 29 from the state of Kansas, five junior college transfers, and two from overseas.

“I’m really excited to get going with this fabulous group of newcomers,” Rainbolt said. “We have athletes from 12 different states and also from Spain. Anytime you can add close to 50 athletes to a program like ours it is a very exciting time.”

The 48 newcomers earned 33 state high school individual titles, and even more top three finishes at their respective state championships. The states of Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Washington, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, New York, California, Virginia, and Nebraska are represented, as well as Spain.

“The significance of this recruiting class is even greater,” Rainbolt said. “Because we are going in to a new adventure and new conference, these young people will be significant in the next four to five years of leading our program and figure out what it’s all about to compete in The American.”
