Today’s special election to determine open council seat

ANDOVER – Voters head to the polls today to determine the next occupant of a city council seat will be filled for the third time in just as many years. The election will solve the issue of who takes the place of former Councilman Philip White, who resigned in March after a short stay in the office.

Greg Schneider is the only official candidate who filed to run for the office, however one well known local businessman says he wants to be in the office and is soliciting support via a write-in campaign. Brian Schwan, who is the owner of Andover Wine and Spirits has been informing friends and family that he would like to be considered at the ballot box.

“Please come support me tomorrow on my new adventure as I am running for city council in Andover.” Schwan told friends via his Facebook page on Monday. “I am a write in, so my name will not be on the ballot.”

Schneider has been active in his neighborhood activities, listed as an officer of the Cedar Park Homeowners Association. According to his social media profile, he has been an employee of the United States Department of Defense since 2016. He was appointed by Mayor Lawrence in 2015 as a member of the City of Andover Park Planning Committee.

Polls are open through 7:00 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
