Robert Harry Hale, Jr., of Andover, KS, passed away in Steamboat Springs, CO, on September 28, 2017, while traveling with his wife of 48 years, Caroline Shisler Hale. Harry was born May 3, 1948 in West Palm Beach, FL. He grew up in an Air Force Family that moved often. When his father was stationed at Richard’s Gebaur AFB in Belton, MO, Harry met his future wife in 1965. Harry was a 1966 graduate of Belton High School. He attended The University of Missouri at Columbia and received his BS in Psychology from UMKC in 1970. Harry was an avid Mizzou fan.
Harry and Caroline were married in Columbia, MO, on August 16, 1969, at the University Chapel. After graduating college, Harry began his 43 year career with the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller at the Air Route Traffic Center in Olathe, KS. The Hales moved to Andover in 1994. Harry was the Air Traffic Manager of the Wichita Air Traffic Control Tower at Mid Continent Airport from 1993 until his retirement in2012. He received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career with the FAA. Harry served on the Andover City Council for 5 years. He had a keen interest in park improvements and quality of life for the citizens of Andover. He also worked closely with the Andover Police and Fire Departments. He was well known and respected throughout the community.
Harry was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Caroline, Harry is survived by their son, Travis and his wife, Allie, and grandchildren: Maggie, Gracie and Jackson all of Prosper, TX; a brother, Rick Hale (Debra) of Jackson MS; sister, Patricia Gartland (Tim) of Nashville, TN; mother-in-law, Ruth Shisler, of Andover; and 3 sisters-in-law, Sharon Lockhart of Leawood, KS; Gail Seale (Ed) of Tucson, AZ, and Ellen Huls of KC, KS. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. Robert H. Hale and Ione Lee Hale, and a sister, Barbara Leigh Morley. Respecting his wishes, the family will observe private services to celebrate Harry’s life.
