Schroeder to take operations commander job, captain’s rank

 


 

ANDOVER – On Sunday, October 8th, Joseph A. Schroeder will be promoted to the rank of
Captain and assume the responsibilities as the Operations Commander,
overseeing the day-to-day activities of the department’s Patrol and Investigations
sections.

Captain Schroeder is a Rose Hill resident who retired from the Wichita
Police Department earlier this year where he had served for the past 28 years.
During his time with the WPD Joe worked as a Police Officer in Patrol; a Detective
in Auto Theft, Financial Crimes, Burglaries, Sex Crimes and Gang/Felony Assault;
a Sergeant first serving as a Field Supervisor, then as an investigator in
Professional Standards (IA); and a Lieutenant, serving as a Watch Commander in
Patrol, Recruit Training Instructor at the academy, supervisor over Accident Follow
Up and Robberies; an administrator in Support Services; and finished his career
as the Director of the WPD Animal Services Section and the Wichita Animal
Shelter.

Captain Schroeder also has served for the past 22 years in the National
Guard and will be retiring in April of 2018 as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9).
