Lately, California is again becoming one of the major hotspots just like at the beginning of the Pandemic. It has joined other states in the list that are breaking their coronavirus records with each passing day. Those states include Texas, Florida, Arizona, Utah, and some others. The situation is California going worse day by day too.
Prisons are just making the situation worse in the state. Recently, according to the latest figures, close to 4,000 jail inmates have been tested positive for the virus that has led to a total of 20 deaths until now.
In just the last 2 weeks, the cases in the jail have surged by 2,000. In view of the situation, many people were demanding to release inmates from jail to avoid further spread.
Keeping the situation in mind, the governor granted clemency to 21 inmates and granted pardon to 13 inmates. Those people will be released from prisons. However, these numbers are nothing compared to thousands of inmates locked in prisons with the chance of being exposed to viruses. Some people have argued the same.
Recently, 2 prisons witnessed major outbreaks after hundreds of inmates were transferred to those prisons from the prisons that have already witnessed major outbreaks. Those released from the prisons are mostly those people who were convicted and locked when they were children.
However, given the situation, it is highly unlikely that those small numbers are going to contribute anyway to avoid major outbreaks in prison. Maybe the governor is planning to release more people and it is just a starting point. For any update stay tuned with us.
