No cell phones, no plastic bottles … no chairs?
The rigorousness of the filmmaker behind Inception prevails at every stage of production – and even distribution – and are qualities that have surely made casts and crew suffer equally. For example, Christopher Nolan’s sets are strictly prohibited from including chairs or any type of seat, a restriction that Anne Hathaway explained during a recent talk.
Recall that director and actress have previously collaborated on El Caballero de la Noche ascends (2012) and Interstelar (2014).
Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman met in a novel chapter of Actors on Actors, hosted by Variety magazine, to share experiences that have left their mark on their respective and extensive careers.
At one point in the conversation, both co-stars in Les Miserables (2012) talked about directors – whom they would have worked with – who ban cell phones on film sets. Jackman managed to name Darren Aronofsky ( The Fountain ) and Denis Villeneuve ( Prisoners ), but Hathaway immediately mentioned the name of the director who directed his colleague in The Prestige (2006).
“I don’t want to contradict you, but you have worked with three directors who do not allow cell phones: Christopher Nolan, ”
said the Oscar winner.
Chris doesn’t allow chairs either. I worked with him twice. He does not allow chairs, and his reasoning is that if there are chairs, people will sit down, and if they are sitting, they will not be working. He has these amazing films in terms of scope and ambition, technical prowess, and excitement. It always comes to the end on schedule and on budget. I think he has a good point with the chair thing.
In order to maintain an active and focused workspace, Nolan has also been reported to ban plastic bottles during filming, considering them a noisy distraction. This was revealed by actor Barry Keoghan, who was part of the Dunkirk cast (2017).
The next of the acclaimed British filmmaker, Tenet, is scheduled to arrive in Mexican cinemas on August 14 of this year.
