Masks have been a huge point of debate since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, there was even confusion about whether masks can really protect oneself from the virus. But later, it was proved in research that masks give some protection against the virus.
Even then, Americans are usually hesitant to wear masks.
There were several incidents reported where a dispute arose between employees and customers just because the customer was not wearing a mask. Leaving aside the general public, there has been debate regarding the masks even among politicians. Some counties chose to make the mask mandatory but had to face backlash from their own party.
In this situation, A coronavirus expert from the Johns Hopkins University said that masks can become the new normal for American society. He has been researching the mask since last year. According to him, Americans may need to wear masks for several years to come.
Dr. Eric Toner said that “I think that mask-wearing and some degree of social distancing, we will be living with — hopefully living with happily — for several years, it’s actually pretty straightforward.
If we cover our faces, and both you and anyone you’re interacting with are wearing a mask, the risk of transmission goes way down.”
If true, this is a really horrific situation. Now that the masks are becoming politicized, Dr. Hildreth said that “It’s been a long time since I read the Constitution but I read it, and there’s nothing in the constitution that I’m aware of that gives me the right to put your health at risk,”.
