Could Berlin still be alive? – A theory for Money Heist Season 5

Berlin, a master thief of Money Heist, was killed off in the second season’s finale. But chances are that he could still be alive. Here’s how.

The second season showed that Berlin was gunned down by the police and killed. It was also revealed that Berlin was actually Andrés de Fonollosa, Professor’s brother and that he was suffering from Helmer’s myopathy, a rare genetic disorder which would have caused his death within few months into the Heist.

The show creator Álex Pina revealed, in Money Heist: The Phenomenon (a documentary), that she regrets killing off Berlin. She said that she was asked to do so by some higher authorities as the bigoted views and sexual abuse by the character to one of the hostages was unfavourable during that time. She commented-

“People need to get their heads checked because I’m sure he’s not the character you’d want your daughter to marry. But that dominant side to him, his leadership, repulses us but it gives us a certain sense of safety.”

Berlin was still bought back in Season 3 and 4 in the flashbacks of planning Bank of Spain Heist and while discovering his relationship with Palermo. But still, the way Berlin was take off from the show, it left a certain element of ambiguity in the death scene. This, right there, might be Pina’s way of keeping an option available in case the crew decides to bring Berlin back in the upcoming seasons of the show.  “We conclude that cannabis comprised but a small fraction of the available sugar sources in any particular habitat and that its ample representation among sand fly plant meals signifies bona fide attraction,” the scientists wrote. Berlin was one of the fan favourite characters, despite his antagonist nature with the rest of the crew. He was shown as a psychopath and self-confessed misogynist, yet his character contained some kind of charisma along with his own set of unique values. The character made his presence felt in the entire show.

There is, however, one problem in this theory of Berlin being alive. First, if Berlin wasn’t killed by the gunshot by police, then his disease must have killed him. Still, it is believed that some people can survive Helmer’s myopathy with the right treatment. But that is something that might be unlikely to happen, given that he only took drugs for managing the symptoms and didn’t find any other way to elongate his life.

Berlin was shot in the Torso several times and he fell to the ground. But unlike other characters, his body was never shown. In such a case, he might end up with a fate similar to Rio. If not dead, he might have been captured by Prieto and tortured for more information about Professor’s plans since the robbers were successful in escaping. The Colonel could even have gone to great extents to find some cure for Berlin to keep him alive and take information out of him. Whatever the case, if Berlin is still alive, we might see him in Money Heist Season 5. And how can we forget his words to Palermo-
