History might be on the verge of being created in New york. For the first time in history, openly gay black members in new york might be elected to be in the Congress.
They are Mondaire Jones and Ritchie Torres. They are currently leading in the race to become the members of Congress by replacing the previous members.
Both of them belong to the Democratic party, so it can be easily said that both of the seats are now almost secured by the Democrats.
If they officially secure the party’s nomination, they are highly likely to win the November elections.
Monday was brought up in New York by a single mother and with the help of his grandparents too.
He was very poor, and later he acquired his degree from Stanford University then Harvard University. He had even served under the Obama administration.
He says its a great responsibility to represent both gay and Black members in the Congress. He said that
“I’m happy to be providing that kind of representation for so many young people and older people all throughout my district and all throughout this country who have reached out to me and said, ‘I’m so inspired by what you’re doing.
You give me hope and I can be my authentic self in a world filled with so much injustice,’ and it’s really an honor to be able to do that.”.
On the other hand, Torres said that “Look, the triumph of an openly LGBTQ congressional candidate over a leading homophobic in state politics, that to me represents long overdue poetic justice, What is better way to celebrate pride month than to defeat the politics of homophobia?” For more such latest news stay tuned with us.
