As the Fourth of July approached, violence followed by a significant uptick in crimes took place across the United Nations, leaving at least 17 dead, including children of age-group 7-15.
The bloody gun violence over the holiday weekend made President Donald Trump tweet: “Chicago and New York City crime numbers are way up. 67 people shot in Chicago, 13 killed. Shootings up significantly in NYC where people are demanding that @NYGovCuomo & @NYCMayor act now. Federal Government ready, willing, and able to help, if asked!”
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted late Saturday: “Tonight, a 7-year-old girl in Austin joined a list of teenagers and children whose hopes and dreams were ended by the barrel of a gun … As a city, we must wrap our arms around our youth so they understand there’s a future for them that isn’t wrapped up in gun violence.”
Natalie Wallace, the 7-year old girl, came to Austin to visit her grandmother and was pronounced dead shortly after three gunmen got off a white vehicle, and opened random fire, shooting Natalie right in the head.
Ironically, the child was only standing on the sidewalk of her grandmother’s house at around 7 pm on Saturday.
This incident was followed by another fatal shootout at the Englewood neighborhood, leaving 4 males dead including 14-year old Varnado Jones, just before midnight.
However, Chicago is not the only American city to witness the violence over the past weekend.
Nation’s largest city, New York reported several shootings across the city leading to nearly 30 death cases, 14 of which are in Northern Manhattan.
In Baltimore, at least 8 people were found with a serious gunshot wound, while one woman was declared dead on spot.
Brutal shootout in the city of Detroit took the life of a 15-year old teen early Saturday, who was asked by his murderer a question and then shot dead. Along with this, a family of five faced a fierce open fire which led to the mother’s death.
The Memphis Police Department also confirmed the death of a woman at around 10 pm on Saturday, while she was watching fireworks as confirmed by the investigators.
Cities of Philadelphia, St. Louis, and Cleveland reported 6 additional killings, among which there is a girl of 8 and a child whose identity has not been released yet.
The Greenville County Sheriff reported another fatal shooting around 2 am at a night club, causing 2 deaths and 8 severe injuries.
The uptick of violent crimes and nerve-wracking violence is worrisome, however, the gunmen associated with the mentioned shootings have not been arrested yet.
