According to a press release, an Indiana mother of a 2-year-old boy who climbed into the backseat of a hot car and died in 2018 has been sentenced to 30 years. The early afternoon on September 8, 2018, was the last time she had seen him, according to the reports by the local TV station Fox59.
Britni Wihebrink had taken a nap with her son Jaxson Stults that afternoon when her 2-year-old son left the apartment and entered Wihebrink’s car.
According to a press release from the prosecuting attorney in Delaware County, the car was parked in the parking lot and her son closed himself in the passenger compartment and eventually passed out in the car.
Later, a neighbor discovered her son and immediately rushed to call 911 to the apartment complex in Daleville, Indiana. However, the boy couldn’t survive for long as he had his last breath on the way to a nearby hospital.
His body was then taken for an autopsy which revealed that the cause of his death was hyperthermia caused by elevated temperatures in an enclosed space, according to a press release. Moreover, Wihebrink told the authorities that she had been drinking and has now pleaded guilty to Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death,
According to the reports of her blood alcohol level that were revealed in a press release, her level was .155 at the time of her arrest. In addition to that, prosecuting attorney Eric Hoffman said that as a mother, it was her duty to protect her son, after she was sentenced to 30 years on Wednesday’s hearing.
He further added that his heart breaks for the innocent child who had to die at such a young age due to the cruelty or negligence of their parents.
He said that the most appropriate place for parents like these would be a prison as she has miserably failed in taking care of her child resulting in his death.
