After “No Time to Die” Daniel Craig is reportedly stepping out of the James Bond franchise and renouncing his role as James Bond. But there is a list of contenders who could replace him for the upcoming films of the franchise.
Craig’s tenure was extended until No Time to Die release due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But now, there is a vacancy for the role of James Bond.
Here is the list of celebrities who we expect as the new face for James Bond:
- Tom Hiddleston
After a meeting with Barbara Broccoli, the James Bond film producer, a few years ago it was rumored that the new movies can feature Tom Hiddleston as the new James Bond, along with Susanne Bier as the new James Bond Director.
In 2016, Hiddleston declared in his statement meant for his fans that, “Your guess is as good as mine, to be honest, I’m sorry to disappoint you, everybody,” he said at Wizard Comic Con in Philadelphia. “I don’t think that announcement is coming.”
- Cillian Murphy
The popular Peaky Blinders fame Cillian Murphy was rumored to star as James Bond, and if the rumors are true he will be another Irish actor to show up in the role of Bond after Pierce Brosnan. Though in March 2019, the rumors were slashed of him becoming the new face of Bond.
- Tom Hardy
The most versatile actor, known for playing similar roles like one in Inception, we can expect him to be the next face of the James Bond. He even looks like Ian Fleming’s 007 agent. He also hinted upon wanting to play the role in his statement:
“There’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting… that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one!”
- Henry Cavill
In 2005, Cavill auditioned for the role of James Bond, and at that time he was 22-years-old only. He successfully reached the second round but couldn’t make it to the final round where Craig was selected.
Since he has already auditioned for the role and also played a similar role in The Man could this be a chance for him to take back the role he lost?
- Idris Elba
Idris Elba is another star to be rumored for the role of James Bond, and the Golden Globes award added support to these rumors. Though these rumors were slashed by him when he in his statement, delivered to the Event magazine, said that, “Bond is one of the biggest franchises in the world, and for that reason, whoever ends up playing it, lives it.”
He further added, “You’re ‘that’ character, and known as that character for many, many years. I’m creating characters now that can still live alongside Idris. Not ones that take over me and solely define me.”
- Benedict Cumberbatch
Is it possible that our beloved Sherlock Holmes could be seen playing James Bond as well? The probability of Cumberbatch getting the role went from 100/1 to 10/1. But, Cumberbatch believes that he is not suitable for this extraordinary role.
He said that, “I can wear a suit, and I can fight! I can raise my eyebrow, but that’s not what it takes to play Bond. They might want to go in very different directions, who knows? It would be fun though!”
