A Man in Florida reported to be 29 years old was kept behind bars on Friday night for using a hoax Snapchat profile to lure a 13-year-old girl for sexual intercourse, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.
Joaquin Mendez has been charged with vulgar or lustful battery of a victim under 16 years.
The mother of the teenager called the sheriff’s office Friday afternoon after finding “lewd text messages” on the girl’s phone during a regular inspection of her daughter’s mobile. The sufferer complained to her mother that Mendez had picked her up Friday morning in his car and took her to a forested area, where they had sex. She reported that she met him on Facebook and eventually started texting.
The investigators of the case discovered Instagram and Snapchat accounts that Mendez used to communicate with the girl had pictures of a young Black man who appeared to be nothing like Mendez.
Officials found Mendez’s car later Friday afternoon and looked over the house until the detectives had reached the perpetrator’s place with a search and arrest warrant. He was imprisoned at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday and transferred to the Volusia County Branch jail, where he was being detailed on a $25,000 bond early Saturday evening according to the recent jail records.
