Coronavirus cases in Florida are soaring high. It has reached the point where one can say that it has gone out of hands.

There are many reasons for it. First of all the late imposition of stay at home orders and then hurried reopening without proper planning is the major cause.

However, the public not maintaining social distancing and masks has also caused a huge turmoil.

Maks has been clinically proven to help against the spread of the virus. So, many people think it must be mandatory to wear masks for public health and safety while many think it should be recommended but should not be mandated.

Now this mask thing has caused conflict among the republican party that stresses individual freedom and responsibility.

Florida Governor DeSantis has openly endorsed masks wearing.

Although he has not made it mandatory, he also has given the charge to the counties that if they want, they can make wearing masks mandatory.

However, he also thinks that making masks mandatory to wear may backfire. There have already been some incidents where the tension between employees and customers was caused over this masks wearing issue.

The Jacksonville republican mayor Lenny Curry has made it mandatory to wear masks in his county.

However, he has been bashed within the party itself from several members. Republican US senator Rick Scott said that information may be good, but he also asked to stop telling people what to do.

Even a lawsuit has been filed against the order. The Leon County chairman Evan Powers, who is a Republican too, said that “We have real concerns of governments overreaching during these periods of time that can hurt us in the future,” It should be handled by local businesses.

The government’s job is to educate people on the right thing to do, not force mandates down.”
