Bodycam video of a police officer in Alabama was shown by the authorities in which the police officer can be seen punching a man who called to report a robbery. The incident is that of March and the man has been identified as a liquor store owner.
The man named Kevin Penn even suffered a broken jaw due to the incident that took place on March 15. He has even been charged with obstruction after he refused to put down a gun. We can see the officer striking Kevin after what appears to be a brief argument.
Carl Cole, Penn’s lawyer has said that the police were shown guns by Penn just to let them
know that Penn was armed.
The clip was removed and the bullet was ejected from the chamber by him after he showed the gun. However, police chief Nate Allen told Penn that he was punched after he became angry and agitated. He was punched after he tried to put his hand over his gun that was left on the store counter.
Nate said that ” That’s what caused the immediate charge of the officer.”
He was then asked whether it’s appropriate to punch someone this way. To the question, the officer replied that it’s their job to get the job done with the least amount of force. He even added that “I’d much rather have a punch than a shooting”.
The officer by whom Penn was punched is currently on administrative duty during an internal investigation. Allen also said that later a suspect was caught who might have shoplifted the liquor store.
