An Ohio police officer responded to a call just after midnight Saturday about a drunken man outside a Toledo Home Depot, but the man turned and fired a bullet into his chest, the Toledo Police Department announced.
Police Chief George Kral stated that Officer Anthony Dia was taken to the Promedica Toledo Hospital at the age of 26.
“Officer Dia was the first crew to arrive that morning, which, according to the Toledo parade, Kraal said to check for the security [call].” He was checking to make sure this man was alright. ”
Eyewitnesses told police that the suspect ran into a nearby forest, and officers established a perimeter, deploying a drone and a dog to help search the area. During the search, officers heard the sound of a gunshot, and shortly after 3 a.m., they found 59-year-old Edward Henry dead from a gunshot wound.
According to Henry, the witness stated, drunkenly arguing with some of the people there.
However, According to Blade, Henry was one of two groups of people gathered in the Home Depot parking, which witnesses say serves as a local “hangout” for the informal car show.
Whereas eyewitnesses said that Dia came and tried to reach him while walking away, but Henry turned and fired.
Mayor Wade Kapszyukiewicz praised Dia, saying that as one of the city’s few Muslim officers, the officer was not only “one of Toledo’s bravest and best police officers, he is also someone who would have contributed to diversity Is what makes our country and our city so great.”
