‘One Piece’ is one of the most famous manga (a style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels, typically aimed at adults as well as children) of the last 20 years (without going any further, it was the best-selling in 2018 ) and an anime series with almost 1000 episodes. Created by Eiichirō Oda, it is currently still broadcast, as well as publishing new volumes from its manga collection. Luffy’s story and how he becomes a pirate has delighted his fans for years and now will add one more sheet to his long life: an adaptation to live-action.
Netflix is behind this new adaptation, the first in live-action, and according to the latest information, it will begin filming on August 31, 2020, in Cape Town, South Africa, and such filming, if all goes properly, could run until mid-2015. February 2021, as long as the Coronavirus allows it. This adaptation will have Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements and even the author of ‘One Piece’, Eiichiro Oda, as direct supervisors and, according to the latest rumors, Netflix would be shuffling names of great stars to play the main characters.
The followers, however, are between excited and cautious, as the bad Netflix adaptation of the popular manga ‘ Death Note ‘ or that adaptation of ‘Dragon Ball’ that is rated or ranked as one of the most distressing movies of the history of cinema. Will Netflix acknowledge or honor Luffy’s story? We hope so!
