The Orange County’s Democrats are all set in renaming the county’s John Wayne Airport and in removing all his likenesses from the airport owing to American icon’s racist and bigoted statements decades ago.
Thus, the Democratic Party of Orange County has taken this decision while condemning John Wayne’s racist statements.
Thus, a resolution was passed on Friday which called upon the OC Board of Supervisors to restore the Airport’s original name, that was, Orange County Airport.
The resolution asked the authorities to reverse their decision to rename it after Duke in 1979 owing to his remarks in a 1971 interview with Playboy.
In that interview he gave a statement saying that he doesn’t believe in giving positions and authority of judgment and leadership to the Blacks until they’re educated to serve the purpose and reach a point of responsibility, calling the Blacks ‘irresponsible people’.
He also used the statement ‘white supremacy’ and also stated that he does believe in white supremacy in an interview that was shot almost 50 years ago.
However, things got worse for the communities when he spilled words saying that he does not at all feel guilty of the fact that the Blacks were slaves five or ten generations ago, thus leading to massive pushes to rename the airport.
However, Wayne’s defenders said that it was totally unfair to judge him on the basis of his remarks that were made nearly 50 years ago, and more importantly, he is no longer alive to give his justification or defend his statements.
Earlier we did encounter events and movements which were directly focused on renaming and tearing down monuments and institutions that were named after those having committed racial acts or racist views.
Thus, the Democratic resolution has come up with a national movement to reshape American institutions, monuments, and businesses by removing the white supremacist symbols and names.
