The horror genre has been resulting in both box office and critical success over the past few years and there’s definitely an exciting renaissance ahead with plenty of projects in the development of hitting theaters. The iconic slasher Scream has also been kickstarted wherein its fifth installment will be helmed by Ready or Not directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin. And now, the original writer Kevin Williamson has reacted to these filmmakers getting the gig, sitting on the director’s chair.
Moreover, Scream 5 would mark the first time another filmmaker will be taking the director’s seat as all the previous installments were directed by horror legend Wes Craven who, unfortunately, passed away in 2015. Thus, the highly anticipated movie was dropped to Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin who would hopefully continue Craven’s legacy.
However, Kevin Williamson isn’t involved in the writing of the upcoming installment but seems to be extremely proud of the directors being a part of the Scream franchise. He does have faith in the duo and this makes us no more wait for the installment to hit the theaters. According to sources, the movie is scheduled to release sometime in 2022.
Presently, the slasher sequel is in the midst of filming with Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell, and David Arquette reprising their roles and win over iconic names from the slasher franchise.
