Introduction of the Series
Akagami no Shirayukihime which is Japanese for Snow White with the Red Hair. This anime is originally a Japanese shōjo manga written by Sorata Akizuki and the anime adaptation is produced by Warner Bros., Hakusensha, Showgate, The Klockworx Co. Ltd., Hakuhodo DY Media Partners, Docomo Anime Store, BS Fuji and Bones. The manga was first serialized bi-monthly shōjo manga magazine by Hakusensha but has moved to monthly Lala and is now published in collected volumes by Hakusensha.
The anime television series is directed by Masahiro Andō. The writer of the anime adaptation is Deko Akao. The amazing music and background score is given by Michiru Ōshima. Speaking of the run time of the series… The anime recently had two seasons and they came out pretty close to each other and they both can be counted as just one big season because it’s kind of one of those situations where it’s a contract for 24 episodes and just splits them into two seasons. So, we can say the first half of the anime series aired in the native region, Japan between July 6, 2015 and September 21, 2015. On the other hand, the second half of Snow White with the Red Hair aired between January 11, 2016 and March 28, 2016.
About the Anime Adaptation
Snow White with the Red Hair is definitely an absolutely beautiful anime, heartwarming to the core, having all the elements of romantic-comedy and with a slice of life in the medieval timeline. Adding to this there’s no magic of any sort in this series, it is basically just “Knights in Shining Armor” kind of anime but of course focused on this particular girl that as the title suggest has got red hair and it is a very rare shade of red hair almost as red as bright fresh apple color. It is a very unique thing out there because no one has hair like her. But, why am I emphasizing on her hair color so much? Well, that’s because her hair color has captured a lot of negative as well as positive attention for her. Due to her rare red hair, she is prone to be exploited for wrong reasons like capturing and being sold for slavery, there’s definitely a lot of those situations. Overall, this show has the capability to fill you with the determination
Should You Watch Snow White With The Red Hair?
I would simply say, YES! But how can I so confidently say that? Well, here’s the answer… (Slight Spoilers Ahead!)
The red haired Shirayuki which translates to Snow White is an herbalist making a modest living in the Kingdom of Tanbarun. The prince of this kingdom notices her beautiful bright red and tries to take her for a concubine, super classy and romantic move. So, she decides to get the hell out of there and flees. On her way to the neighboring Kingdom of Clarines, she happens to come across the prince or rather a prince of that kingdom, not that she knows about this at the but it is soon revealed by the end of the first episode. Some dramatic things happen and Shirayuki sets out to forge her own path with her herbalist skills in this new kingdom.
Aside from Shirayuki’s name there are really only a handful of references to “Snow White” and they’re all in the very first episode, beyond that it is very much original and a completely different thing. Maybe the name was chosen to set up expectations rather than defy them or the author of the Manga just really liked Snow White and wanted to pay homage. Well, whatever may be the reason, the name works only because the show has the feel of a fairy tale. I can say this by the bright vibrant colors that are almost constantly on screen, the music that evokes the sense of whimsy and the writing which is rather poetic sometimes; also aforementioned, the setting of the medieval fantasy world that doesn’t have any strange creatures or magic. It has castles and kingdoms without any aggravating real world history stuff involved. Each episode finds the characters dealing with some sort of issue either related to Shirayuki’s progress as an herbalist or something Zen has to deal with as a prince.
This show isn’t action focused but there are still excellent action scenes when the story calls for it. Also, this is the same studio Bones that put out Full Metal Alchemist and Soul Eater which were a huge success. Now, if this is not a reason enough to watch this anime then I don’t know what else is!
Cast and Characters
Snow White with the Red Hair is always focused on the characters. Mainly the characters and their relationships with each other are the strongest point of the show. We have Prince Zen who is constantly shrinking on his desk-based duties but has a good heart. His wisecracking knight servant people Kiki Seiran and Mitsuhide Lowen and of course Shirayuki herself.
Shirayuki is one of the best characters I’ve come across. I can confidently call her a badass, even though she is not really a fighter or one of those super intelligent mastermind type characters but she exudes confidence and she’s constantly seen to be working towards her goals. It feels like she always earns whatever progress she makes. Even in situations where she is ultimately saved by another character (usually being Zen), she never appears weak or helpless because she is always doing whatever can to get out of those situations and she helps Zen just as often as he helps her. That doesn’t mean that these two are the only characters which I focused on but there are more characters than I didn’t mention that get introduced as the story goes on which are more complex sort of characters and trust me when I say very entertaining.

Will There Be a Season-3?
Everything being said and done, those who have already watched this series know that Season-2 is definitely not the end of Zen and Shirayuki’s love story as it didn’t get the conclusion and the third season is most probably able to wrap up the story. As I already mentioned that the finale episode aired in March of 2016 so there is a significant amount of time which has passed since then, we just hope that things go well and we can hear the news of Snow White with the Red Hair season 3 release date and it could be sometime in 2021.
