The father in New York pleads guilty and stops the death of twins in hot cars

NEW YORK — A dad whose juvenile doubles departed after being dropped in muggy car declared liable to wild endangerment Tuesday and will evade jail.

Juan Rodriguez, 39, appeared at a virtual hearing and pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.

He avoided jail time with a conditional discharge. “For the rest of his life, he will be scarred by what happened here,” defense attorney Joey Jackson said.”I’m going to stick severely to anything that has happened. So, I don’t think any discharge for it today.”

Rodriguez initially charged with felony counts of second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, as well as misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child, in the deaths of his two children, Luna and Phoenix, last July.

‘District Attorney Darcel Clark said,’ The accused Juan Rodriguez left his 1-year-old twins for hours on his car’s rear seat, as he went to work.

The kids were seized in the hot Summer in their wheels, without a big bottle, so we had the right testing. It was a disturbing, horrific experience for these guys.

The case adjourned numerous times while the district attorney investigated whether to seek a grand jury indictment. He remained free on $100,000 bail, and defense attorneys maintained the case was a tragic accident.

Jackson said, “He lost his lovely precious baby. “But I understand that he does not have endless years in prison with a soothing sense.”

Rodriguez, of New City in Rockland County, confirmed to police-men that he moved his twin kids in the car for ampere-hours on July 26.

He told police he dropped off his 4-year-old son Tristan at a Westchester daycare but forgot that his twins were in their rear-facing car seats.

He immediately went to the VA Medical Center in the Bronx at about 8 a.m. Rodríguez notified authorities. And the twins inside parked his motorcycle.

He stated he retreated to his car eight ampere-hours later and began to drift away, according to police-men. He drove for two sections before identifying the children, foaming at the mouth, and dead.

Police said he pulled over and screamed for help. Rodriguez charged the next day. Rodriguez is a licensed clinical social worker and an Army veteran who served in Iraq.
