Sending a child off to college, remodeling a family room, or building an add-on are all great excuses to make yourself a barroom for relaxing with your buddies. And designing your bar room doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Once you have your pool table, dartboard, foosball, or other game tables you will know how much space is left for other furniture.
If you want to see all of your affordable options, go look at bar room furniture on 1StopBedrooms. Whether your new rec room is big or small will determine how much furniture you can fit comfortably within the space, but the following furniture items fit well in a bar area.
Start with the basics
If you didn’t get a custom built-in bar as part of remodeling or repurposing your space for a den or private barroom, you’re going to need to make a decision about what you will do about a bar. You have a few different options.
Start by choosing a bar, and the two most obvious options are to order a custom island that you can choose the height yourself or to go with a buffet or sideboard. Not sure how tall you want the counter to be? The average kitchen island height is 36 inches, while the average bar height is 42 inches.
By contrast, the average height of a dining room sideboard is 30 to 36” tall. Assuming about 10 to 12 inches of space for legroom, you should be able to get slightly taller dining chairs instead of traditional barstools with the shortest of sideboards.
Barstools also come in different heights, with counter height barstools having a seat about 30 to 34 inches and traditional barstools having a seat height of about 38 to 40 inches.
Bookshelves for display and glassware
If you aren’t going to have a full kitchenette in your barroom, you should really consider a bookshelf. An enclosed bookcase is a great place to safely store bottles of alcohol, mixes, and glassware. It can also be used to display or shelve board games, card games, and other entertainment.
To make it more like a bar, place the bookshelf behind the bar and line the back of one shelf with mirrors with your most expensive bottles in front.
Console tables and accent cabinets
Console tables are a great addition to your home bar and can be a useful surface for snacks, appetizers, or additional beverage stations. Display board games, store media within a cabinet or give yourself a space a smaller place to have a television with game consoles and streaming devices. An accent cabinet is smaller than an entertainment center or media cabinet and gives you a great chance to show your personal flair.
Bar table sets with bar chairs
If you would like to have a place to sit with your friends in a more intimate setting, or if you want to be able to dine away from the bar, adding a bar table and chairs set is a good idea. These dining sets are small in profile but offer tall bar-style seating and dining experience.
